USO Bike Ride is returning to Samoa!

USO Bike Ride will partner will return to Samoa to support the work of the Samoa Cancer Society to raise cancer awareness to some of to Samoa to support efforts to raise Cancer Awareness and promote healthy lifestyle's through cycling and/or regular physical activity, good nutrition, regular health checks and a focus on spiritual, mental and social wellbeing.

Samoa Cancer Society CEO Papalii Su’a John Ryan, "Samoa Cancer Society is excited to welcome back to Samoa the Uso Bike Riders team. Uso Bike Riders have successfully conducted 4 previous bike rides, raising Cancer Awareness and promoting exercise as a lifestyle choice is so important for Samoa. This message is not just cancer-specific, but will also have an impact on all Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs). Samoa Cancer Society invites all of us to get behind this great imitative and if you can, grab a bike and put in some miles with us."

The tour around both Savaii and Upolu runs from 16th – 24th November. USO Bike Ride leader Alaiseuava Chris Te’o say’s “USO Bike Ride are looking forward to supporting the messaging and work of Samoa Cancer Society to raise cancer awareness. This is our way of serving and giving back to Samoa. Thanks to the Samoa Cancer Society and Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development Children for enabling this wonderful opportunity”.

Some of the USO team members have had their own personal experience of cancer and all of the team members families have been impacted by cancer and other illnesses. The group are led by the founders of USO Bike Ride Alaiseuava Chris Te’o and Tofilau Talalelei Taufale.

To conclude the tour USO Bike Ride will run a bike skills workshop with Samoa triathlon members.  USO Bike Ride congratulate the efforts of Samoa Triathlon and wish the team all the best at the South Pacific Games.

SAMOA INSIGHTS 2018

For this tour we cycled around Upolu and took part in the Samoa Warrior triathlon event as teams-needless to say it was very hot!
Cancer Awareness outreach was based in schools and  villages in Savaii.  The team also enjoyed a stop at the blowholes and a visit to the plantation and preparing an umu with our hosts at Vaisala Hotel.  Another feature was the visit to the koko plantation at Vaisala.

To complete the tour we cycled from Vaisala Hotel to Salelologa, caught the Ferry and then cycled back to Apia.

SAMOA 2014 INSIGHTS

SAMOA 2014 was an USOme year for the team in Samoa.  Through our activity in New Zealand we were able to recycle 37 used bicycles, ship them to Samoa with the support of MATSON shipping and donate them to SAMOA EVENTS for use in schools, triathlons and community events.  Samoa events and the community appreciated the donation.  Many students were able to use the bikes while we were there in triathlon and cycle rides.
